Karl Urban confirmed he would play the lead role at a Comic-con interview on 23 July 2010. Dredd was filmed in South Africa in October and November of 2010[1].
The film had a budget of $30,000,000, was filmed in Cape Town and had an 18-month post-production period, during which additional footage was filmed involving the 'hotshot' sequence and the final confrontation with Ma-Ma[2].

In the first week it was released, the DVD sold 750,000 copies in the USA[2].
Its UK TV premier took place on Channel 4 on 2 May 2015, where it achieved viewing figures of 1.06 million[3].
