Dan Dare met Hitman on Topsoil, convincing him to join Dare's Legion on a mission to the Lost Worlds[1].
Hitman had been on the cruiser Enterprise when it exploded, spending two minutes in absolute zero before getting to a liferaft, during which time his gun froze into the flesh and bones of his hand[1].
