Judge Dredd[]

Dredd is a Judge in Mega-City One. He patrols the streets and dispenses justice with total impartiality. He IS the Law.

Judge Giant[]

Giant is the son of John 'Giant' Clay the captain of the Harlem Heroes aeroball team.

Chief Judge Clarence Goodman[]

Goodman is Chief Judge in 2099

Judge Griffin[]

Griffin is the principal at the Academy of Law

Rico Dredd[]

Rico is Dredd's clone brother. He was better at the Academy than Dredd, but Dredd caught him running a protection racket and turned him in.

Walter the Wobot[]

Walter is Dredd's speech-impaired robot man-servant. Although technically a free robot, he serves Dredd because he enjoys it.

Maria[]

Maria is Dredd's Italian cleaning lady.

Max Normal[]

Max is one of Dredd's informants. He dresses like a 20th century businessman in a pin-striped suit and bowler hat, carrying a furled umbrella.

M.A.C.[]

The Macro-Analysis Computer or M.A.C. for short, is the Judge's central computer.

Judge Alvin[]

Alvin had been due to become the next Judge-Marshal of Luna-1 when he was killed by 'Whitey' Logan.

William 'Whitey' Logan[]

Whitey is a perp who featured in the very first Dredd strip. He kills Judge Alvin before being captured by Dredd and sentenced to life on Devil's Island[1].

Behind the Scenes[]

The concept of a near-future cop was created by John Wagner, though following some concept sketches by Carlos Ezquerra this was shunted forward about a century.  The name came from an occult strip that Pat Mills had been developing[2].

The character had been shown in an advert in Prog 1 and another advert prior to the comic's launch which featured in Battle in February 1977[3]
